Making Charitable Donations via the Web


Through a partnership between GuideStar and Network for Good, it is now possible to donate to the Community Foundation, its special funds, and its activity committees through the Web.

If you are familiar with purchasing items via the Web, just go to the GuideStar Web site at <http://www.guidestar.org/>. (You do not need a GuideStar account; if you have such an account, you do not need to login.) In the search area, input the Community Foundation's federal ID number: 95-3416510 (not our name). When you see the listing for the Community Foundation, select "Donate Now". You will be directed automatically to the Network for Good Web site to complete the donation. If you do not already have a Network for Good account, you will be prompted to create one. If you wish to direct your donation to an activity committee or special fund, input that information at "Designation" on the "Add to Cart" page.

If you are not familiar with doing transactions on the Web, detailed instructions are below.

NOTE

There is a 4.75% processing fee for each electronic donation through PayPal or a credit card. The minimum PayPal or credit card donation is $10.

There is a $10 processing fee for an electronic donation from your checking account made through TeleCheck or $5 for each donation when two or more donations are made at the same time. The minimum TeleCheck donation is $200. (For single donations greater than $210, the TeleCheck fee is less than the PayPal or credit card fees. For all multiple donations in a single transaction, the TeleCheck fee is less.)

Processing fees are determined by PayPal, the credit card companies, and TeleCheck, to whom they are paid. Neither GuideStar, Network for Good, nor the Community Foundation profit from these fees.

You have the option of having the fee added to your payment or else having the fee subtracted from your donation. In either case, the fee is considered part of your donation when itemizing charitable contributions for income taxes.

Bank and credit card statements will show your donation as a payment to Network for Good. You will receive an acknowledgement from Network for Good. You also have the option to receive an acknowledgement directly from the Community Foundation. For donations of $250 or more, you should save these acknowledgements for your tax files.

Network for Good Account

First you must have an account with Network for Good. If you already have such an account, skip this section. Otherwise, follow these steps:

  1. Go to the Network for Good Web site at <http://www.networkforgood.org/>. (This link will open a new window or tab so that these steps remain available.)
  2. Near the top-right of the "Home" page, select "Start here".
  3. Under "New Visitors" on right side of the "Login" page, select "CREATE PROFILE".
  4. Enter the requested information on the "Create a Profile" page. Your E-mail address becomes your user ID. Be sure to record your password. The checkbox just above "Tell Us About Yourself" will provide you with records you need to substantiate donations for the IRS. The information under "Tell Us About Yourself" is optional. Select "CREATE A PROFILE" at the bottom.
  5. Review your information on the "Profile Confirm" page. Then, select "CREATE A PROFILE" at the bottom.
  6. Since you are merely creating an account, select "logout" near the top-right of the "My Giving Cart" page.

You will use this account when making a donation via the Web to the Community Foundation.

Making a Donation

Donations are made after locating a charity in GuideStar. Although it is possible to have an account at GuideStar, it is not needed for this. Instead, merely use these steps:

  1. Go to the GuideStar Web site at <http://www.guidestar.org/>. (This link will open a new window or tab so that these steps remain available.)
  2. If you have a GuideStar account, don't bother logging-in. In the "Nonprofit & Donation Search" box under "GuideStar It!", enter the Community Foundation's federal ID number: 95-3416510. Do not enter the Foundation's name. Select "SEARCH".
  3. On the "Search Results" page, select "DONATE NOW", which opens a new window or tab for Network for Good.
  4. On the "Add to Cart" page (Network for Good), enter the requested information. Select "ADD TO GIVING CART".
  5. On the "My Giving Cart" page, select "PROCEED TO CHECKOUT".
  6. On the "Sign In" page, enter your E-mail address and password for your Network for Good account under "Returning Customer Login". Select the "CONTINUE" for that section.
  7. Select a payment method on the "Select a Payment Method" page. Select "CONTINUE".
  8. Depending on the type of payment selected, varying pages will appear for entering billing information. Enter required inputs to complete the donation.
  9. When you are done, do not forget to Logout from your Network for Good account.
