Privacy

With regard to the Internet:

• The Community Foundation's Web pages do not provide any feature for obtaining data input by those who browse these pages.
• E-mail to the Foundation may be disseminated to members of the Board of Trustees. If you wish to avoid dissemination, please explicitly state your desire at the beginning of such a message.
• Web pages that count visitors may also record the date and time of each visit along with the visitor's IP address. (If you use a dial-up connection to the Internet, you will likely have a different IP address each time you connect. This will vary within a set of IP addresses owned by your provider.) The purpose is to determine how broad an audience is viewing these pages by checking the associated domains. No report is made of individual IP addresses, and those data are not archived. The gathered information is not released outside of the Community Foundation.

Many other charities exchange or sell information about their volunteers and donors. The sale of mailing lists can be a significant source of revenues to those charities. They also share with other charities such information as the names and phone numbers of donors and the amount each donor contributed. Those charities believe they can and should disclose whatever information the law allows.

Under our Privacy policy, however, the Community Foundation takes the opposite position. Rather than disclosing whatever the law allows, we generally prohibit any disclosure of personal information that is not mandated by law. We do make limited exceptions, such as for students honored with scholarship awards and for those individuals in whose names donor-defined funds are created. We also allow sharing of information between our own activity committees. For details, please read our Privacy policy.
